Our women’s team performed admirably in an exhibition match at Aryan Club, Durgapur. They displayed tenacity and quickness in the second half to earn a rightfully deserved 2-0 victory. Kudos to Mina Khatun and our captain, Piyali Kora, for their brilliant goals. We also extend heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to our revered mentor, Debabrata Ghosh Sir, as we dedicate this triumph to him.

Beyond the realms of football, we take immense pride in our association with the International Soft Tennis Federation’s World Tour 2023. Our star athlete, Ansuman Babu is all set to represent India at the International Soft Tennis Championship in Pattaya, Thailand. A product of our Prathiba, a Sports Initiative Programme, sponsored by Shyam Metalics (SMEL), Sambalpur, under our CSR programme, Ansuman Babu’s achievements are a testament to our commitment to nurturing talent and providing a platform for success. With several notable accomplishments under his belt, we have full faith in his potential to bring more laurels to India, Odisha, and the Shyam Group. At Shyam Metalics Foundation (SMF), we believe in empowering promising talent and providing them with opportunities to shine on the global stage. Through our Sports Initiative Programmes across our plant operation areas, we aim to level the playing field and support young athletes in their pursuit of greatness. Ansuman Babu’s journey is just one of the many inspiring stories that drive us to continue our mission.

Speaking of inspiring stories, we participated in the Vivekananda Gold Cup held at Burnpur Stadium. Our Quarter Final against SAIL-ISP, Burnpur, was a testament to our players’ determination. The opponents formed a joint team, formed with the best players from SAIL Football Academy and ISP Football Team. Although our team proved their mettle with a comfortable 1-0 victory at Burnpur Stadium. Jaydev Hansda, our latest academy recruit, scored the only goal in the match and was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance. In the Semi-Final, our players demonstrated their dedication and hard work, securing a resounding 3-0 victory against Ukhra Football Academy. Bibek Bauri scored a brace while Sajal Hembram added one. Bibek was awarded the Man of the Match for his stellar display. In the Final, we defeated FC Dhanbad 1-0. The opponents’ players were mostly from the North East, the hotbed of Indian Football at the moment, but our players kept their composure and dominated in every aspect to clinch victory. Our captain, Rohit Murmu scored the only goal in the match and was adjudged Man of the Match. While Bibek Bauri was awarded the Man of the Tournament. Guided by our esteemed mentor, Debabrata Ghosh, our team were crowned Champions of the Vivekananda Gold Cup. Director of Shyam Metalics, Sumit Chakraborty, was in attendance for the final, encouraging our players with his inspirational presence and valuable input.
